Parent Mentor
Priscilla Cuba
Originally from Puerto Rico, Priscilla graduated in Business, Real Estate and Basic Computer from the College of Lake County. She also completed four semesters toward a B.S. in Accounting before coming to the U.S. in 1991. She lives in Gurnee, Illinois with her husband and her twins, who have severe mental retardation due to PKU. Priscilla works for the Special Education District of Lake County (SEDOL) as a Parent Mentor. She was appointed as a member of the Illinois Parental Leadership Council by Governor Rod Blagojevich. Priscilla has worked with parents of children with disabilities since 1986 in workshops, mom’s groups, parent/teacher committees and as a school volunteer. As the mother of twins with severe learning disabilities, Priscilla has devoted the past two decades pursuing appropriate specialized programs for students with disabilities in Lake County. She firmly considers active parent/guardian participation in the development of student instruction as the most important element of this process. She loves to work with transition parents assisting them in the research for resources process, attending IEP meetings, touring to community workshops, as well as facilitating Champion Together Seminars. Mentor TrainingsAll trainings are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact me above.
