Parent Liaison

The purpose of Parent Liaisons is to help parents of school-age children effectively navigate the educational system in partnership with school district personnel and to assist school districts with meeting the requirements of Title 1 Family Involvement (NCLB, Section 1118). Parent Leaders are supported by the Parent & Educator Partnership through in-kind support, however, there is no direct funding from ISBE for local development of parent liaisons.

How Parent Liaisons Can Help Bridge the Home-School Gap

Dr. Mavis Sanders, from Johns Hopkins University, writes: “Schools can create cultures that promote relationships among teachers, building administrators, and family members that minimize the effects of socioeconomic class and ethnic differences on families’ involvement in their children’s learning at home and school.” This article is found in the Journal of Educational Research May/June 2008 [(Vol. 10 (no. 5)].

Creating a Parent Liaison program

The first step to implementing the Parent Liaison program locally is to create awareness about the needs, benefits, and supports for the program. Creating Awareness about the Parent Liaison program provides simple steps in creating awareness with the superintendent or at the building level. If you need support in creating awareness, let us know, we are here to help. Program description available here. For a Parent Leadership brochure click here.
